Play
At Sadochok we believe in carefully planned environments that allow children to explore, examine, question and investigate through all their senses.
Activities
Activities are organized throughout our center to encourage children to make friends, work as a team and to complete tasks independently.
Education
We offer both the opportunity to learn through play as well as learning or maintaining a second language.

Welcome to our St. Vladimir’s Sadochok Family!

Sadochok is Calgary’s only accredited bilingual Ukrainian/English preschool and daycare program for children aged 2 to 5 years old.

Highly skilled staff provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere where children learn life skills in preparation for kindergarten.

Age appropriate methods are used to teach literacy, numeracy, music and art.

Large indoor and secure outdoor play areas allow ample time for self guided play and social interaction.

Field trips and special activities throughout the term.

Our hours are 7:30am-5:30pm, and we are located minutes from downtown.

Sadochok is a parent volunteer-run, non-profit organization licensed by Alberta Child and Family Services.

More About Us

Our Curriculum

Languages

Children learn traditional and current Ukrainian songs and dance. The alphabet and phrases are taught in Ukrainian. Children showcase their language skills 3 times a year: the St. Nicholas Concert in December, Family Fun Night in May (aka the perogy party), and at the year-end concert in June.

Arts and crafts

Crafts are age appropriate to encourage the development of gross and fine motor skills. Monthly themes are established and crafts and activities are incorporated into those themes to enhance your child’s learning environment.

Field Trips

We enjoy field trips to Butterfield Acres in the fall for a “harbooze” (pumpkin) hunt and throughout the year special guests are invited to our facility to stimulate curiosity and exploration. Examples may include – Mad Science, Sportball, Music Therapy, Dance and Movement Class.

Cultural

Children visit St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Congregation and Ukrainian Museum of Canada – Calgary Collection, to learn about religious holidays and aspects of pioneer Ukrainian Canadian life. Ukrainian songs and traditions including kolachi baking, pysanky writing (decorating Easter Eggs), and preparing Easter baskets are an integral part of the preschool program.

Learning essentials

Our program encourages safe development of your child’s physical, social, intellectual, creative and emotional development. Age appropriate methods are used to teach literacy, numeracy, music and art. Our program has a wide variety of current Ukrainian books, posters, and teaching aids for your child to have hands on learning in Ukrainian.

Recreation

We have an amazing and secure outdoor play ground with our own garden, as well as a large indoor play area which allows for ample time for self guided play and social interaction.
